Emergency and critical care doctors are the ones that you hope to never need to see, but who are absolutely essential in providing the best possible care for our pets. From seeing walk-in cases of sudden illness and injury to supervising the care of hospitalized patients, these doctors are here to ensure our sickest patients make it back home as often as possible.
Illnesses or Injuries that may need Emergency Care:
Similar to human medicine, a Board Certified Veterinary Specialist is a veterinarian that has completed three to four years of additional training in a specific field of interest. A veterinary Specialist is also required to complete an internship, residency, and pass a comprehensive examination to ensure they are qualified to practice medicine within their chosen specialty. The US recognizes 41 different veterinary specialties. Violet Crown is excited to offer the following specialties at our facility in Bee Cave, Texas:
Illnesses or Injuries that may need Emergency Care:
- Trauma (hit by a car, fall from height)
- Bite wounds
- Toxin ingestion

- Bleeding or wounds
- Blood in vomit or stools
- Non-productive vomiting/retching
- Firm, painful, or enlarged abdomen
- Ingestion of a foreign object
- Loss of consciousness
- Seizures
- Inability to walk or place weight on a limb
- Difficulty breathing
- Inability to urinate
- Heatstroke
- Injury to the eye
- Acute pain
- Dystocia (difficult births)
- Allergic reactions
What you can expect from your visit to the Emergency Room?
- Your pet will be immediately seen by a nurse to be triaged. This is a rapid assessment including vital signs (heart rate, temperature, etc.) and a brief history.
- Patients will be prioritized based on the severity of their illness. This means that if you are waiting to see a doctor, it’s a good thing – the pets around you are sicker than yours.
- Our doctors will discuss their findings and propose a plan to gather more information and/or help your pet feel better. If advanced diagnostics or treatments are needed, your pet may be admitted to the hospital to continued care with our Critical Care or other specialty services.
